What a review here means

A product ends up on this page because it survived three questions:

Does it do the job better than the cheaper option? If the answer is no, the cheaper option is on the page instead. Several categories here top out with the least expensive product, because past a certain point the extra money buys branding.

Does it hold up? The complaints that repeat across hundreds of owner reviews are the useful signal — a bench that wobbles under 200 lbs, a strap that fails in month seven, a motor rated for walking being sold for running. A fault that shows up over and over is a design fact, not bad luck, and the write-up names it.

Would it still be the right call in a year? Gear you outgrow in a season is expensive no matter what it cost. Where a product has a ceiling — a dumbbell that stops at 25 lbs, a rack that will not take a heavier bar — that ceiling is stated up front so you can decide whether you will hit it.

Do you physically test every product?

No, and it would be dishonest to claim otherwise. These are research-led reviews: manufacturer specifications, warranty terms, current pricing, and the patterns in large volumes of verified owner reviews. That approach is good at catching durability problems, spec inflation and bad value, and it is not a substitute for hands-on testing of feel or fit — where that matters, the page says so.

How often is this page updated?

Prices refresh when the site rebuilds. Rankings get revisited when a product is discontinued, when a newer version ships, or when the complaint pattern in reviews changes enough to move a verdict.

What if a product I bought turned out to be wrong for me?
